種植後約3年可開始開花結果，主要在2到5月開花，3到6月結果。
為桃金孃科亞熱帶果樹，同科其他果樹有蓮霧、番石榴、嘉寶果等。
為亞熱帶果樹，全台灣均可栽培，在中南部生長更佳，是具有特殊風味及潛力的新興果樹，栽培容易且病蟲害少。
巴西櫻桃為灌木類植株，樹型優美，花有香味，果實成熟時可採收鮮食，亦可自製加工品，是極具食用與觀賞價值的新興果樹，也適合做為果樹盆栽、庭園觀賞植物或做為綠籬。
